Home Opener vs West Virginia

Friday, Sept. 16 marked the home opener for Alabama Hockey against West Virginia University. Fans traveled from all over to the Pelham Civic Complex to watch the Frozen Tide take the ice at home for the first time in the 2022-23 season.
The first period ended 0-0 with many quality saves by freshman goalie Joe Hughes (26).
WVU scored in the second period before Tyler Trombly (91) put a point on the board for Alabama Hockey.
Throughout the first and second periods, fans had the opportunity to purchase a puck and participate in Chuck-a-Puck during the second intermission. Everyone was excited to throw their pucks from their seats, aiming for center ice.
During the third period, Quinn Fahey (27) scored a fantastic, unassisted goal. However, Alabama lost to West Virginia 4-2 in the last five minutes of the game.
On Saturday, Sept. 17, Alabama Hockey set out for redemption and succeeded. Within the first 10 minutes of the game, Greg Simmons (14) scored assisted by Brian Seybold (19) and Gianni Dini (22). Immediately following that, Max Eckstein (13) scored an unassisted goal.
The Frozen Tide used this momentum to carry them through the second period, earning them four more goals and many impressive saves by senior goalie Elijah Gibbons (88).
Jenson Lopez (23) and Finn Parkman (3) scored the last two goals of the game resulting in a strong 8-4 Alabama win. In regard to this past weekend’s series, Gibbons (88) said, “We’re just having fun!”
